In 2015, an NRI filed a complaint against Anandiben’s son’s company for allegedly marketing his mother’s Ahmedabad house, which was closed for years. A year later, the Patel government was accused of favouring Anandiben’s daughter by allotting her business partners 422 acres of land at a huge discount of 91.6% on the government’s stamp duty rate in 2010 when Narendra Modi was the CM and Anandiben Patel was the Revenue Minister. Anandiben was also criticised for allegedly allowing her children to wield influence in the government since Patel became CM.

• Patel Quota Protests and Dalit Uprising: After a year of assuming office as Gujarat’s CM, Anandiben was blamed for privatising and making education unaffordable for the Patidar community, leading to Patidar protests for reservations. In 2016, her government faced another controversy in which Dalits protested following an event of public flogging of Dalits in Una. This incident eventually led to Anandiben’s resignation.

• Received Flak For Insensitive Comments: When Anandiben was serving as Madhya Pradesh’s governor in 2018, her speech made to the BJP leaders was strongly criticised by the opposition. In the video of the speech, she was advising the leaders to adopt needy and malnourished children to get votes. The Congress’ state spokesperson labelled her comments as “unethical and unconstitutional” and demanded suitable action against her.
