Some Lesser Known Facts About Shawn Rhoden
Shawn Rhoden was a Jamaican-American bodybuilder who won the Mr. Olympia title in 2018.
During his teens, he was inclined toward sports and used to play soccer and cricket.
He shifted to the US in 1990 and started his career as a bodybuilder. At the age of 17, he started developing an interest in bodybuilding for which he joined the gym to gain the required body size and strength.
In the initial years of his career as an amateur bodybuilder, he faced several injuries, and he had to take a break from bodybuilding for a short period of time. After getting encouraged by Mr. Universe Yohhnie Shambouger, he again started working for bodybuilding competitions.
In 1993, he had a major injury in his right hand after an accident in the gym. His doctors advised him to quit bodybuilding, but he continued his training. He then received Posers Award for his stage performance.
Later, he faced a major setback in his personal and professional life which led him to alcoholism.
In 2010, he returned to bodybuilding and won the IFBB Pro card.
He debuted in Mr. Olympia contest in 2011 in which he finished at 11th position. After participating in various Mr. Olympia contests, he finally won the title in 2018.
In 2019, a documentary title ‘Flexatron: Becoming Shawn Rhoden’ was released on the life of Shawn.
On 6 November 2021, he died of fatal heart attack while he was in the US.
