Tara Mahmood was born in a Muslim family in Lahore Pakistan. Her father, Shafqat Mahmood, is the Federal Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training. He is also the Federal Minister for National History and Literary Heritage, in office since 20 August 2018. Shafqat Mahmood has previously been part of the Pakistan Administrative Service and the National Assembly of Pakistan. Tara’s mother, Humaira Mahmood, is a teacher at Lahore Grammar School.
Tara Mahmood has two siblings; a twin sister and an elder sister. Her twin sister’s name is Beenish Mehmood.
Career
Tara Mahmood started her career as a singer in 2004. She is an expert in Rock, Jazz, Funk, and R&B music genres. Tara worked as a singer in the entertainment industry until 2006 when she decided to pursue a career in acting as well. She made her acting debut with PTV’s drama serial ‘Inspector Khoji,’ in which she played a supporting role. In 2014, became the lead singer of a Pakistan based rock band, named The Rushk band, after replacing the previous lead singer Nazia Zuberi. The Rushk is known to perform globally. Tara Mahmood’s best performances at a singer includes ‘Mera Naam,’ Tujhay Patta To Chalay,’ ‘Bori,’ and ‘Aye Na.’
Tara Mahmood got a breakthrough in her acting career in 2014 when she appeared on screens as Nabeel’s brother wife in Hum TV’s tragic romantic drama serial ‘Mohabat Subh Ka Sitara Hai.’ Her performance in the show was highly appreciated by the audience. Thereafter, she became part of many Urdu drama shows including ‘Goya,’ ‘Soteli,’ ‘Jackson Heights,’ ‘Diyar-e-Dil,’ and many more, but her roles did not make much impact on the Pakistani audience.
Tara Mahmood again rose to fame, in 2015, after delivering an extraordinary performance in Hum TV’s drama serial ‘Diyar-e-Dil,’ for which she also gained huge critical acclaim. After the success of ‘Diyar-e-Dil,’ Tara was offered to work with the big banners of the entertainment industry of Pakistan. Later, she was seen in several hit shows like ‘Nazr-e-Bad’ as Shaista, ‘Laut Ke Chalay Aana’ as Aqeela, ‘Teri Raza’ as Rameez’s mother, ‘Romeo Weds Heer’ as Arshad, and ‘Anaa’ as Nazia.
In 2018, Tara played the promising role of Masooma Jalal Khan in the romantic comedy series ‘Suno Chanda.’ Her connection with the audients grew up so well in the show that the second season of ‘Suno Chanda’ also featured Tara in the same role.
Tara Mahmood made her film debut in 2013 with the Mansoor Mujahid directed ‘Seedlings.’ Tara was featured in this social drama film opposite Mohib Mirza and Aamina Sheikh. The film had its world premiere in the United States at the New York Film Festival as well and it received several awards and nominations in various international film festivals across the globe. In the following year, Tara also appeared in Sabiha Sumar directed film ‘Good Morning Karachi.’
